Emily Chilton reflects on her rides at the National track championships

"Last weekend I took part in the National Track Championships at Manchester Velodrome. I raced as a pilot on a tandem bike with a visually impaired rider, Natalie Jamieson. We took part in two events which are both essentially time trials on the track of different distances. On Friday we did 1k TT which is 4 laps of the track and Saturday we did the 3k pursuit which is 12 laps of the track. Although it doesn’t sound far it is an all out effort from a standing start on a fixed gear so it takes it out of you!"

Hertfordshire Wheelers have been established in the East Herts area since July 1928 - one of the oldest established cycling clubs in Hertfordshire. The club has members from throughout the area including Cheshunt, Hertford, Ware, Stevenage and Much Hadham.

Club Runs

Each Sunday, club runs take place. These are rides of 30-70 miles through the lanes of Hertfordshire and Essex. Some rides are at moderate pace, usually taking in a refreshment stop in a café, others are faster, "training" rides. Our "Club Runs" page gives more information on ride categories and start locations.

Racing

The club is affiliated to "Cycling Time Trials" (CTT) enabling our members to take part in time-trials. We are also affiliated to British Cycling. Members take part in criterium and circuit races.

Sportives, Audax and Charity Rides

Audax rides are popular non-competitive rides over a set course which has to be completed in a stated time. We organise our own Audax rides over distances of 100km and 200km. These regularly raise more that £1000 for charity. Members regularly take part in Audax, sportive and charity rides, either individually or in groups, over distances ranging from 50km to 200km (and in the case of one member up to 1400km!).
