Category 6 ride led by Ian Bailey
Six riders left Ware at precisely half past eight to embark on the epic widescreen director’s cut version of the route to Thremhall Park. We arrived just two minutes late at the appointed meeting place for Daniel (born 1961) to join us; we had been delayed by deer crossing the road.
We then followed a winding route, taking in a trip through the centre of Bishops Stortford and a wide circuit of Stansted Airport, keeping our heads down as low flying airliners passed overhead.
Thremhall Park has improved since last year. Service was bordering on efficient, with just short waits for cooked food even though it was packed with cyclists. Decent cakes were on offer. An even higher rating could be achieved if they could offer David a tea pot.
Then disaster struck! Dan (born 1961) bought his bike lock some time ago and set it to the memorable combination of 016, apparently. But it wouldn’t open! Ten minutes of strategising by the whole group was finally ended when Mark - mysteriously - was able to open it using the combo 061. Dan (born 1961) was unable to explain this - perhaps the number mechanism had slipped.
The return journey, shorter than the outward and basically downhill all the way, sped by. Dan (born 1961) left us at Green Tye and hopefully was able to remember his house number.
