Victoria C. C. - Brazier's Run

Victoria C. C. - Brazier's Run

12 Mar 17

This was a lovely ride with light winds, dry roads and hints of spring sunshine as the day progressed.
Graham and Peter rode out to Victoria CC's Ugley hut, which meant an early rise to make the 9:00 am start time. On arrival they found the usual cozy, glitz-free welcome with free coffee, tea and biscuits. By lunch-time, and at the end, the atmosphere remained but the food offerings now included home-made soup, rolls and an irresistable selection of cake. Excellent value and all within the £10 entry fee.
The ride was 106k in two equal loops. The first took them north to Wimbish and Great Sampford, which meant they had assistance from what wind there was. The return was via Thaxted, after which the mainly flat roads gave way to the more lumpy stuff around Tilty and Broxted.
Dragging themselves away from the free cake they set off on the second loop which took them south and east to High Easter then back via White Roding. On the final stretch the sun was evident and the tail-wind had returned - ideal cycling conditions!
Graham had planned to take the train back home but yielded to the temptation of an extra slab of carrot cake which convinced him that more calories should be burned. So both rode home to complete a very satisfactory day.
