Combined Cat 5 & 6 run led by Bob B
As both Cat 5 and Cat 6 were starting at Hertford and as a total of only 9 riders were brave (? foolish) enough to tackle the threatened high winds and rain, it was decided to combine the rides.

So an elite group including several regular Cat3ers set off into the teeth of the gale for Emily’s at Whitwell. Leader Captain Bob chose to ride through Datchworth rather than risk Coltsfoot Lane but then regretted it as the group became embroiled in massive traffic congestion as hordes of small boys and their parents (and 4wds) were trying to gain access to the rugby club. Note to self, don’t do that again.
Sticking mainly to the more major roads, the group all arrived safely at Emily’s. Notably, this experienced group obeyed the etiquette of winter group riding and stayed in formation behind the leader, unlike the usual random riding! Five out of the 9 decided to return straight home, giving various excuses for this behaviour. The four who stayed on encountered a full cafe despite the weather, largely being Northroaders. Fortunately space became available by the time that orders had been taken, so we were spared having to eat outside. The return journey was very much wind assisted, with a few hairy moments from gusts of side wind, but the four arrived back at base safely. Can’t speak for the others!
