Cat 5 run led by Sarah W
Five set out for the Cat 5 run this week, although only 4 of them were at Much Hadham, with Ian S starting in Ware having read the erroneous website entry earlier in the week.  Despite Steve puncturing in Albury we made wind-assisted progress through Stocking P, Ford End, Langley, Duddenhoe and Littlebury to find the trendy Bicicleta - Coffee con Velo cafe full of cyclists. We eventually found a seat and tucked into cake whilst simultaneously admiring the perfectly coiffed beards of the serving staff and admonishing them for their imperfect spelling (Pete…).  Ian S eventually found us (having eaten in the Mocha) and we headed back through Wenden’s, Arkesden, Rickling and Manuden.  Full marks to everyone and extra kudos to Steve for doing the whole ride with SPD shoes and Look pedals…

The longest day of the year saw 13 wheelers head of into the deepest darkest realms of Essex. I know a lot of wheelers get a bit worried about crossing the border into whats believed to be the land of shady characters and white stilettos, but the extra daylight of the summer solstice seemed to ease their worries and even allowing for Franco getting another couple of punctures we should still be home before darkness fell. As it turned out the ride made its way to the Wyvale garden center at Ongar and all the way back home without any mechanical's. The cafe staff didn't seem to happy, what with 13 CUSTOMERS!! turning up and wanting food and drink. You do wonder what business plan some people put before the bank manager . "Customers ?, no not for me, dont want them, pain in the A$%*."
The peloton dropped its number on the way home as some chose to put the peddle down and sped of into the distance to get home quick and make the most of the pampering they had been assured waited for them, it being fathers day. Another bunch decided to take the shortcut home ( after being reassured that full points would still be awarded. You know who you are.) and left just 4 of us to return to Ware , where another 2 disappeared leaving the last 2 hardy souls to  actually complete the ride. Really enjoyable ride with plenty of P***  taking well up to the usual standard.

Joined by three members and one guest. Windy out up a few hills but plenty of time for refreshments at dunstable before swooping down into the plain before rising back up ivinghoe beacon. Went to toms hill to take in womens tour. Graham kindly took over to take everyone but me back a more direct way, whilst i went back to wgc (3pm) via peters green. Fathers day activities then rode home to justify second fathers day choc session..
