Cat 6 run led by Wendy
12 of us headed out to Hitchin in nice sunny weather via Knebworth, Codicote, Whitwell and Preston. Just as the leader was thinking it was going fairly well, came the shout of ‘xxx canicle’, which turns out to be a broken chain. This was soon fixed and we headed to Du Tea, Hitchin, where we were served with a nice selection of cakes, coffee, and proper tea (loose leaf, not teabags, and out of a pot).

Taking a similar route back home, we were helped by a tailwind in most parts. Another mechanical, this time a puncture, happened near Woolmer Green, but we were not much delayed and were soon back in Hertford

While there were various attempts by people to head off in what they thought was the right direction, the leader managed to stick to her route and got everyone home. All in all a great day out and hopefully everyone enjoyed it!

Cat 5 run led by Sarah
Distinctions were blurred between the categories this week.  Four Cat 5 riders set off for Thaxted via Manuden and Henham.  While we were sitting in the sunshine outside the cafe the non-stop Cat 2 riders turned up for a stop, having been displaced from the Blue Egg by a local Audax.  We set off again with the same number having lost Ian S to make his own way home and inheriting Alex who had left the Cat 3 ride and found us at the cafe.  The route home through Molehill Green and Elsenham was very pleasant although hillier and windier than the route out.  Outside Much Hadham we met the Cat 3 group fixing a mechanical, whereupon Alex rejoined them and the remaining 3 coasted into Much Hadham having done 50 miles.
