Come and Try Ride - 13th April

17 Apr 14

There were 5 up at Allenburys for a breezy and sunny slow potter out through the lanes of Chapmore End, Stonyhill, Sacombe Park, Sacombe, Dane End and Great Munden.
The original outward route (via Nasty and Hamels) was abandoned, as we stopped to help a trio of cyclists at the foot of White Hill, who were stranded with a snapped chain link. Our new member Paul had the right tool and used it expertly to insert a replacement link from Peter’s spares bag, so Herts. Wheelers saved their day and possibly found another recruit to the club. We then used Mentley Lane to reach Puckeridge and approach Pearce’s Farm shop via the footpath on the west side of the A10 dual carriageway.
Unfortunately, we arrived 10 minutes after their 4.00 pm closing! So, back in to Puckeridge to find the only shop open (9 am to 9 pm), but they served us coffee and tea and a vital chocolate boost (Yorkie bar).
A more direct route was chosen for the homeward ride, via the old A10 through Colliers End, High Cross, Wadesmill and Thundridge to Ware. Only 19 miles overall, but all including the new riders declared they had enjoyed the experience.
