Welwyn Track League - 3rd May

06 May 13

Tony Marriott made his track debut in the B group and very much enjoyed the experience. He has very good things to say about Brian's performance - presumably money changed hands.
The first race was very exciting for me as this was my first attempt at this discipline in cycling. The 10 lap scratch was very tactical and Brian showed all his class and experience to finish an excellent 2nd. I was about 15th. The second race was a block pursuit. W ith me having an odd number I was not on Brian's team, so we were racing on opposite sides. Brian finished 3rd in his group and I was 2nd in mine. H owever the winning team (Brian' s) scooped all the league points.
The 3rd race was a points race. Brian, as sharp as a tack, took some early points and bagged 4th. I think I was second on the finish line, grabbing 3 points. The final race was a mixed 10 miler. W e both found the pace high from the first prime lap and that effectively ending our evening.
A super display from Brian, pure class! On reflection I can see that tactics and positioning is key. My first race was an-eye opener but as the evening went on I settled more and had a great time racing. Roll on the next meeting!
