Club run reports - 6th July

Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos

If this were a daily tabloid the strap line would be “It’s all about Kev”. Intrigued? Read on.

The weather report advised it was going to start raining about midday. Kevin McPheat messaged to ask if I wanted to meet at the post office in Much Hadham for a cuppa. I jumped at the chance and got there at ten past eight. Kev turned up in his Chelsea tractor. We duly had a cuppa, then Kev drove off to the meet point. I rode up to meet Kev and Peter Cusworth also turned up. Nice, just three of us, meaning a quick turn around for the cafe.

We rode off at 8:30 when the weather was warm and cloudy. Kev, had an iPad on his handlebars (well it’s an iPhone, but it’s massive) and he confirmed Strava had a new update which is “really good”.

Off we went up Farking hill (David Smith’s words, not mine (honest guv)) and I was at the back and Kev (it’s all about him) had shot up. We rode and rode and, arriving at the right turn at Allens Green, Just as Kev went straight on, Peter and I shouted to him that we were turning right. Great update for Strava, eh! Or was this a Kev (it’s all about him) mistake? Read on.

We rode during a very humid morning and got to Sheering. We had to turn right and this time. Peter and I kept quiet and yes, you guessed it, Kev (it’s all about him (laugh emoji - remember no emojis on the website)) went straight on. Kev realised his mistake. We then decided the update from Strava was amazing!

We rode through Matching Green and I was seeing the clouds in the sky were getting darker and darker. That’s when I confirmed we would go to Bretts and we “might” miss the rain. We got to Brett’s by 10, had some grub and left within the half hour. Good turn around, meaning we might miss the rain.

Off we went and Kev (yes, you guessed it, it’s all about him today - Roflmao) shot off like a man possessed. Well, it is all about Kev today.  It was only eleven miles back to Much Hadham and we were motoring. On the way back a few drivers were getting very close to us; we were not impressed. We got back to Much Hadham at 12, as we had cut a lot of miles out. All good you would say yeah? Well read on.

Kev popped his bike back in the car and Peter and I rode off. The rain then started, a few drops at first, then about a mile before Widford, the heavens opened. When I say the heavens opened, I mean it was cats and dogs. No, it was actually biblical (love that word). We got to the top of Widford Hill and dived for cover in the bus stop. There was another guy sitting there, who had done the same thing. Now, all I can say, is this person didn’t smell nice at all.

Sitting at the bus stop, Peter decided he was going via Wareside (don’t blame him). We said our goodbyes in the biblical weather and we went off our separate ways. I could not see in front of me, my glasses misted up with droplets inside and out, but peering through, I could just about see. I got to Hunsdon and it was still lashing it down, then Stanstead Abbotts and turned left, past the sewage plant. Yada yada yada ride ride.

i got home at one o'clock. Kev said he had fun driving the tractor home in the puddles. i think Kev should have come and picked us up (tongue in cheek emoji). However, it was all about Kev today!
