Wheelers Audax - how it went

Audax Report 18th June 23

49 riders spent the 18th June enjoying sunshine and dodging showers whilst riding one of three challenging Herts Wheelers Audax routes. Three routes were available: the Three Counties 100 km; the John Cannon Century Ride (100 miles) and the Herts High Five (200 km and 2057 m of climbing). Some riders sped round at high speed, others took a more leisurely approach with the final riders completing the 200k event at 7:30 pm.

The club was pleased to honour John Cannon who began the Wheelers' Audax rides in 2005 and who died earlier this year.

Some 20 club members helped Alex Powell with the organisation. They greeted riders at the control points along the way, helped with riders signing out and signing back and provided sustenance before the start and at the finish.

The £280 raised will be added to the fund the club maintains to support the development of cycling in the area. This year so far £500 has been donated to support the Hertford Family Cycling day in May and another £500 to help fund a Hertford Cycle Hub's scheme which recycles bike and make these available to those who could not otherwise afford them.
