Club run reports - 15th January

Category 6 ride led by Pete Kelleway

The Judge forecasted "Light cloud and a moderate breeze. No hailstorm, nor punctures.”

Full of optimism we all made our way to the start. But where was the Judge? Did he foresee a calamitous event about to take place which we were unaware of? Like Spurs beating Arsenal? All doubts vanished when ‘Miss’ announced she was on her new bike.

First event of the day was when Claire realised she hadn’t downloaded the route. For those in the know this was a major crisis! Second terminal event was when Kate informed us the gears on her bike had just failed and she wouldn’t be riding. The third event was Leigh getting the dreaded call and deciding he needed to head back home. At this stage I was starting to think I might set a record for the number of people dropping out the ride.

Fortunately the rest of the ride was uneventful - apart from one more phone call and many floods and torrents we had to make our way through. Until that is at the cafe when ‘Kev’ realised we were going back past his new house, but his car was in Ware. Oh well….

Good to be back out together. Thanks to Carolyn (for the route), Valdis (I suspect he regrets asking me about bike maintenance), Tony (for almost pushing me to crack), Claire (specialist subject: Garmin routes), Chris (I can brake going downhill now but my bottle cage is loose), Richard (I really should check where we are going) , Mark (nice Rapha gear, Mark), Amanda (I’ll have a large coffee and cake) and Graham (I do like a cake) for making the leader role easy, and fingers crossed Kate and Leigh and our other riders can join us again soon.
