Riding to the Snug

The Snug, High Easter

Combined category 1 and 2 ride led by Laura O’Shea

Given lower than usual numbers due to holidays, we decided to merge the Cat 1 & 2 today for a trip to the Snug, High Easter.

It was a well paced group ride, averaging 19mph over 60ish miles with 650m elevation.

The Snug was very popular today, with cyclists and wasps, who tried and failed to steal our tasty treats (the wasps that is!).

Today's riders were Sam, Stu, Emily and Kevin and Laura.

Category 6 ride led by Tony Dos Santos

Firstly, sorry the report is late. Saturday was spent on the lash with some old school friends. We got somewhat drunk, to say the least.
Sunday morning, I woke at 6, head pounding, stomach not feeling well and I was somewhat groggy. But, me being me, I had a quick wash and jumped on the bike, I came back home quickly, realising I had no clothes on!

I left home at 7:23, slightly panicking that I may not reach Much Hadham by the nine o'clock deadline. However, my fears were allayed as I got there with a quarter of an hour to spare.

Claire and David were waiting. Claire looked a little bedraggled and after some questioning I found out that she had flown in at 2 am. She didn’t really want to tell us why, as she’s quite shy! Graham then turned up and we were four. However, I knew we were meeting others along the route.

On departure we did not go up “Farking Hill” (David’s words), instead turning left into Danebridge Road after Hadham Ford; it was a nice pleasant ride up the hill. Much easier than Stansted Hill. I will definitely go that way again.

The miles stated to roll along. We turned towards Allens Green and then started to drop down into Sawbridgeworth, where a true fessional was waiting for us, yes it was none other than Rebecca the Alé Queen. She was going mad and waving like a crazy woman. Anyone would have thought she hadn’t been on a ride for a long time. At Matching Green, we had to stop as Claire’s bike had a mechanical. She couldn’t change gears. After a quick glance, we realised the bike needed a little TLC and the gears were freed. As we finished, who should turn up, yes, it was Suj. We haven’t seen him for ages. Lovely to have you on a ride.

Now, there was one last surprise waiting for us, for, as we rode off, Pete K came toward us. He wondered where we were. We rode on, catching the “Special one” - Carolyn was waiting for us up the road. She wanted to do fewer miles as her knee wasn’t 100% and didn’t want to over exert herself.

We got to Dainteas at around 11:15 I think. To our shock and horror, it wasn’t open on Sundays. Luckily we had Carolyn with us, who confirmed the Polo Club was just down the road. Phew, disaster averted. We got to the Polo club five minutes later. Food ordered at half eleven.

A nice chat at the table about how short my legs were, well actually are. it’s the bib shorts that are too long, OK.

I can’t remember much about the way back, apart from a brutal, yes brutal, headwind. We said our goodbyes to Carolyn and Rebecca at Spellbrook. We got Much Hadham in good time. Sorry, I’m a little bored now and want to go to bed. Night all.

Written from the sofa, as I was too tired to sit on the throne.
Love and kisses.
