Welcome to the Hertfordshire Wheelers.

The Hertfordshire Wheelers Cycling Club has been established in the East Herts area since July 1928 - thus making us one of the oldest established cycling clubs in Hertfordshire. The club has members from throughout the area including Cheshunt, Hertford, Ware, Stevenage and Much Hadham. Members take part in a variety of cycling activities including, road-racing, time-trialling, track-racing, audax and sportives. Each Sunday a "club run" takes place. This is a ride of 35-50 miles through the lanes of Hertfordshire and Essex taking in a refreshment stop in a cafe or pub.

Despite very wet weather 62 riders completed the course and a new course record was set (18.46 by Nino Piccoli of API Metro/Silverhook Chemicals).

Wheelers Audax Rides

Wheelers Club Badge Audax rides take place over set routes within maximum and minimum time limits. Herts Wheelers are promoting four rides through country lanes in Hertfordshire and adjoining counties. These will take place on the 19th July, starting and ending at Bengeo Football club, New Road, Bengeo in Hertford.

We have included a 50km (approximately 32 miles) ride this year (together with the 100, 150 and 200 km rides). This will be a good introduction to Audax events. Although starting late, 12 noon, it is timed to arrive at Anstey at around the same time as the 150 and 200 km riders and, as it takes the same route back to Hertford, there will be a number of riders travelling that way which may add interest. Entry is £3 (£4 on the day. If not a member of AUK, BC or CTC temporary insurance will be an additional £2).

An Invitation

Fancy a pleasant ride through Hertfordshire lanes? Throughout the summer the Wheelers organise a series of "Invitation Rides". These are shorter than our normal "Club Runs" and are purely social and leisure rides open to anyone who cares to join in - members and non-members alike. Why not join us on our next one? This takes place on Sunday 7th June starting at 2:30 pm from the Broadmeads car-park in Ware. No need to book. Just turn up and join us on an easy-paced 25 mile round-trip to the Westmill Tea Room.
