Welcome to the Hertfordshire Wheelers.
The Hertfordshire Wheelers Cycling Club has been established in the East Herts area since July 1928 - thus making us one of the oldest established cycling clubs in Hertfordshire. The club has members from throughout the area including Cheshunt, Hertford, Ware, Stevenage and Much Hadham. Members take part in a variety of cycling activities including, road-racing, time-trialling, track-racing, audax and sportives. Each Sunday a "club run" takes place. This is a ride of 35-50 miles through the lanes of Hertfordshire and Essex taking in a refreshment stop in a café or pub.

Bike Fitting Evening
Renato Davis on the sizing Jig.
More than 30 members and guests gathered at St. Margaretsbury Sports and Social Club on 21st Jan to hear Mal Pires and Brian Stanwick explain how they measure and fit riders to bikes. Mal emphasised the subtle differences that were needed in order to accommodate an individual's size, shape and fitness and the type of cycling they wanted to do. He also emphasised the problems that might arise from bad positioning including both neck and foot problems. Renato Davis was a patient guinea-pig!
Brian finished with a couple of presentations on the manufacture of the kit he imports from Italy. The first showed the production of custom frames at the Viner factory and the second some of the Miche production processes.

Invitation Rides
Throughout the summer the Wheelers organise a series of "Invitation Rides". These are shorter than our normal club runs and are purely social and leisure rides open to anyone who cares to join in - members and non-members alike. The last ride of 2009 attracted 19 Wheelers and guests. All enjoyed an easy-paced 25 mile round-trip to Braughing Church Hall for tea and cakes. Why not join us next year? Watch this website for our 2010 schedule.
Meanwhile, if you are considering joining us you may like to sample one of our normal club runs. Please contact us first though.
