Wheelers' Calendar

Welcome to the Hertfordshire Wheelers.

The Hertfordshire Wheelers Cycling Club has been established in the East Herts area since July 1928 - one of the oldest established cycling clubs in Hertfordshire. The club has members from throughout the area including Cheshunt, Hertford, Ware, Stevenage and Much Hadham. Each Sunday a "club run" takes place. This is a ride of 35-50 miles through the lanes of Hertfordshire and Essex taking in a refreshment stop in a café or pub. Members also take part in time-trialling, track-racing, road-racing, audax and sportives. [More]

First Ladies Ride led by Emma

6 ladies departed from Senova cycles for a steady ride out to Church Farm. A gentle breeze kept the pace good on a rather chilly icy morning. 18/02/15 - Wye Wednesday 200km Audax

This 208km Audax incorporated everything that I dislike about cycling an event.  Getting up and leaving the house in the middle of the night.  Driving to the event.  Cold, with a strong headwind.  Hills.  Icy conditions first thing and seeing riders fall off in the slippery conditions.  More hills, always going upwards except when it's icy (then it's downwards at an even slower pace than the... Club Runs 15th February

Mike led the Cat 6 run: "A group of 15 that used to be the easies - how times were so much simpler then, before we just became a number - meandered to and from Bishops Stortford, enjoying a short but calorie filled sojourn at the Mocha Cafe. The Gatorskins behaved themselves today, and there were no mechanicals. A minor collision between two members unseated one, but there was no lasting... [more]

17/01/15 - Willy Warmer 200km Audax

Having done the Wheeler's High Five 200 last year I thought it's about time to do some more, so I signed on for this - Chalfont St Peter to Hungerford and back via Lambourn and Maidenhead.

Arrived at the start at 7am to freezing temperatures and an ice-rink car park.  Whilst waiting for the 8 o'clock start, staring out at the frost tea in hand, in walked the familiar figure of Mr Walton, Herts... [more]

13/12/14 - Swaffham CX1 111km Audax

It was fairly dangerous at the 09:00 start as several riders were slip-sliding their way east from Swaffham.  Some hit the deck but fortunately there were no serious injuries.  By 10:00 things had sufficiently warmed up to remove the ever present threat of a tumble and the rest of the journey turned out to be fairly uneventful on a lovely winter's day.  A not too hilly, not too arduous route got... 22/11/14 - The Swaffham Scorpion 100km Audax

Weather forecasters were spot on.  It rained.  And then some.  Turned up at about half eight for a nine o'clock kickoff.  Weather wasn't great, but it was saving itself for the start.  Soon after nine we were all soaked.  It was a bit breezy, but not cold so it wasn't an unbearable ride.  Heading east, then north and then west I got back at about 13:50, 105 kms later.  Was more uncomfortable... 26/10/14 - Emitremmus Desrever 100km Audax

Got a bit cold waiting for the start but soon warmed up once we got going.  About ten of us took part and it was good to see the blue\yellow HW tops in the distance - guess who couldn't keep up!  A very fast journey to Saffron Walden was counterbalanced by an arduous into-the-wind return.  Fortunately a breather was to be had when Alan punctured.  Due to the clocks going back, it became a bit of a... New Kit Supplier - Artwork

Jason has been busy negotiating with Impsport; our newly chosen suppliers of Club kit. We need to approve their artwork before they can produce anything. There are a few differences from our existing design and I expect minor changes are still possible. Your feedback would be welcome.
