Cat 6 run led by Bob B
Seven set off to replicate the legendary Danny Mason route to Buntingford, which had been Capt. Bob’s first ever Wheelers Club Run back in 2011. Danny only knew this route and one to Bishop’s Stortford!  Just like we used to, we got there before opening time (one reason why we abandoned that route I guess). At least we got our pick of the seats (and cakes!) when they did open. And we did beat the Cat 5 group by a considerable margin.  All was going well on the return journey, with Martin safely detached in Puckeridge,  where Capt Bob decided to be clever. While the others took the shortcut to the old A10, Capt Bob decided to show Cube Danny the “proper”  road, thus avoiding the piles of stones littering the shortcut. But he got it wrong and the two of them found themselves pedalling down the new A10!  They reached the point where the others were just disappearing under the bypass, when Capt had a puncture! Oh, irony of ironies! On the smooth tarmac of the bypass. Of course, by the time that it was fixed and the old A10 regained, the others had long gone! Faithful domestique Cube paced Capt Bob back to Ware, where Lee and Bruno had waited to find out what had happened. The others hadn’t.

Cat 5 run led by John F
Fortunately the early morning rain had cleared away before we set out from Ware through Thundridge, Wadesmill, High Cross where Barry's Cat 3 group came past at considerable speed. Our more comfortable pace took us onward via Dane End, Haultwick, Wood End, Ardeley, Cromer, Rushden, Roe Green, Sandon, Green End to Buntingford where we managed to find some seats in the Coffee Shop not occupied by Capt Bob's Cat 6 mob. Peter returned with Bob and the remaining quartet returned via Westmill, Gt Munden, Old Hall Green, Colliers End, Barwick ford back to Ware. 40 miles, no punctures or mechanicals.

A cloudy start soon turned sunny if a little breezy but a twisty route made up for it at least on the outward leg.The route included buntingford, hare st,snow end , anstey ,wicken bonhunt , newport, safron walden where due to a wrong turn  and increasing cloud cover ,it was agreed to alter the destination to safron walden and the mocha cafe. The return was via debden ,henham ,clavering, berden,m hadham ,no major probs only one puncture on one of  the best roads! 68miles av 16.6mph.
