Post TT ride led by Graham Knight

A group of 8 set off from Cole Green variously stimulated or exhausted by their TT exertions. A fairly direct route was taken to Mill End Plants at Rushden but we were shedding riders along the way so that only three made it to the tea and cakes. Mill End were busy so we had plenty of time to enjoy the late summer sunshine before heading home via Sandon and Buntingford.

Category 6 ride led by Graham Rogers

In lovely sunshine five happy Wheelers set off for Whitwell at a nice steady  pace.

Just short of Datchworth, Peter Walton appeared from nowhere and then disappeared near Knebworth House, heading off North towards Hitchin. Lisa had previously parted company near Knebworth due to football duties.

Down to four, we carried on to Whitwell with no issues to report. Arriving at Emily's and looking forward to coffee and cake, it was true what I had been told last Thursday, namely, that they were closed until 12:00pm ! So, leaving Whitwell, we headed for the reserve coffee stop 10 miles away and took the easy route up Horn Hill - 10% climb - where Tony expressed his hill climbing skills (verbally anyway). Pushing on to Kimpton and then Old Welwyn, Tony taught Graham how to say hole whenever he spotted one. Eventually arriving at 'Spokes' cafe and bike repair centre Pete was pleased as he was having gear trouble and asked their engineer for a tune-up whilst he was having his coffee and cake. 'Spokes' is a good find, many like-minded cyclists, good surroundings and animals, goats, miniature horses, even an emu! This pleased Kate who snapped away on her iPhone. Pete was not too pleased as the engineer told him his gear problems were being caused by a cracked frame - ouch £££

As we set off to Hertford, Pete was living on the edge with his cracked frame and not slowing down for anything, including whizzing down the  Bramfield Road to North Road at about 40 mph, or something close to that, and nearly taking out a little car at the junction. All arriving back in Hertford safe and sound, a pleasant ride at 13 mph with great company.
