20th May - Mud, Sweat & Gears (Thetford).

22 May 12

On Sunday I raced in the Mud, Sweat & Gears event at Thetford.  I placed 33rd out of 62 in the veterans category. Once again the course was in good condition and very fast.  My race was two hours long with the winner completing 6 x 4.6mile laps in 1 hour 45 minutes.  I was just over 1 lap behind, finsihing 5 laps in 1 hour 46.  There was a full program of racing throughout the day with categories ranging from juniors and beginners all the way through to elite.  The standard of racing in the vets was high with all the entrants being very capable in the skill and fitness department meaning there was no queuing at the bomb holes or tough sections due to hesitant or out of shape riders.  This is due, in part, to the well thought out program as there were shorter races in the morning for less serious riders who didn't feel up to riding for 2 hours. Hopefully the weather will hold for the next round on 3rd June at Braintree.
