For the first time in many years there were two Wheelers competing in the club’s "Last Chance Points Grabber" road race.
Nick Cramer reported " This has to be for me, the toughest circuit with the distance and a long hill. In this race I wanted: one, to conserve my energy; two, to give Tony some encouragement. We spent most of our time "out of trouble" at the back. There were early breaks and I wasn’t going to go with them – if I had done I would not have kept up. On the last lap, I went for it. I’d managed to last this long and I wanted a top twenty place. I tried to break a couple of times and finally went for it at the top of the hill before the finish line. I managed to keep ahead of most of them as I crossed the line. I was really pleased that I finished this year and was even more pleased to see Tony complete his first Wheelers’ race. What an achievement! This time next year – watch this space! "
Nick was close to the leading riders in the peloton at 25 th and Tony Marriott (suffering from a cold) chased home the last vehicle in the convoy and finished in 36 th place.
