The rain, hail, thunder and lightning cleared just 5 minutes prior to start – resulting in a field that was depleted to around 25 riders and raced as 1 field (it is usually split under 40 and over 40).
Spencer broke clear on the first lap, soon to be joined with 3 other riders including Richard Clark. Richard and one of others then broke away at the half-way point leaving two break-aways each of two riders. Both these pairings stayed clear of the field to the end.
Richard was beaten into second by his ex-Elite companion who broke away with 3 laps to go. Spencer won the sprint for 3rd place.
