Open Time Trial
On Saturday 17 June the club’s annual Open 10 Mile Time Trial took place on the F10b/10 course. There was doubt until a few days before the event as to whether it would run because of the roadworks on the A10. The club was able to make a last-minute decision to go ahead but had to opt for a route heading North from Ware instead of the usual (and faster) Southbound route. The doubts over the event and the slower route led to a high number of entrants not starting the race – out of an original field of 49 there were 13 no-shows leaving 36 riders to test themselves in the very warm conditions of Saturday evening.
Eventual Mens winner was Mark Jones (team Drag2Zero) in a time of 19:28, followed home by Ross Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) in 20:43 and Adam Robertson (Verulam CC) in 21:21. The Women’s prize was taken by Tina Reid (Trainsharp) in 24:23 with two Hounslow and District Wheelers in second and third places; Joanna Wells clocking 26:46 and Jill Bartlett in 28:33.
Organiser Peter Walton said “I am pleased that after all the concern over whether we would be able to run the event at all we were able to put on a successful race that ran very smoothly thanks to the enthusiasm of our members on the day”
