Category (?) ride led by Peter Walton

Seven of us took a tour to Ickleton on a wind assisted outward bound journey that could have done without the rain, but as the current weather is not perfect it was (at least) not a cold day.  Got wet, soon dried out in the wind.  Got wet again...etc etc.  Did 58 miles and got back about 2:15pm.

Category 5 ride led by John Farnham

A showery morning greeted the assembled Wheelers at Allenbury's, five of whom decided to head east into the wilds of Essex in search of refreshments at Dore's Kitchen in High Roding. The showers continued on and off and occasionally heavy as we made our way through Much Hadham, Spellbrook, Hatfield Broad Oak and Great Canfield to find the café rammed full of punters, mainly of the cycling variety. A leisurely tea stop ensued before our return along much the same route albeit with a detour via Hatfield Forest. The earlier showers had all cleared off elsewhere making our return dry and occasionally sunny. 45 miles. No punctures, mechanicals or tumbles.

Category 6 ride led by Danny Hood

The rain started as we amassed in the Allenbury’s car park. I reached for my rain jacket and realised it was still on the side at home. I was going to be the new member of that Scottish pop group, wet wet wet. At least it wasn't too cold. Eleven began but became ten within a mile of the start.
As Whitehill golf course is only about six miles from HQ, it meant putting in a loop to get near the stated 30 miles. The Hadhams, then a tiny bit of off-roading at Standon before hitting Puckeridge. A walk over the A10, then the only real hill up to the golf course. The service was good and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Well worth another visit seemed to sum up the feeling of the peloton.
Back home via the old A10 and Barwick Ford, then onto Cold Christmas and Ware.
Despite the rain a very enjoyable ride, due mainly to the great company.

I'm off away for a few weeks so no doubt there's going to be a heat wave hitting the UK. Enjoy the sun and I'll see you all soon.
