Open Time Trial Reports

25\07\10 - VERULAM CC 25 (F1/25)
With PY and PW starting a minute apart it was always going to be about how far PW could get before being overtaken by PY. This duly happened at the north turn. However the wind also veered to become a north-westerly thus favouring the larger PW. The two swapped places several times on the return leg before PW managed to recover 12 seconds of the minute that PY had earlier gained. PY 1:00:47, PW 1:01:35 amd MP 1:04:28.
21\07\10 - VTTA LONDON & HOME COUNTIES 10 (F12/10)
On a hot and windy afternoon MP's time of 25:31 was enough to take the 2nd Vet on Standard Award.
18\07\10 - VTTA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 50 (H50/4)
MP was timed at 2:23:08 on a windy, pot-holed course at Gt Missenden.
17\07\10 - API-METROW 25 (E2/25)
A fast field of riders entered this event and with a cut-off time of 57:25 only PY was fast enough to enter (albeit as first reserve). However on a windy afternoon he still managed 59:12.
11\07\10 - SOUTHEND WHEELERS (SPOCO) 50 (E21/50)
BP's time of 2:13:09 placed him about halfway done the results list on a difficult course on a windy day.
10\07\10 - EAST LONDON VELO 10 (E2/10)
On a warm afternoon with the wind assisting riders on the return leg MP secured his 2nd fastest 10 of the year with a time of 25:04. PY recorded a time of 23:34.
03\07\10 - WHITEWEBBS CC 10 (F20/10)
With BE's times improving in each and every race, his time of 22:43 was his best of the season whilst PY was timed at 22:36.
03\07\10 - SHAFTESBURY CC 50 (E2/50c)
On a windy course PW somehow managed to knock 3 seconds off his personal best time with 2:08:34 whilst MP recorded 2:16:47.
02\07\10 - WELWYN TRACK
On his return to the track, BE came third in the scratch race.
27\06\10 - ECCA 100 (E2/100c)
An early morning start proved to be a mixed blessing for the slower riders MP(5.06am) and PW(5.09am) as at least this meant that they should be finishing before the day got too hot. However MP packed in at 80 miles due to the heat, whilst PW (although struggling towards the end) finished in 4:37:51, over 22 minutes faster than his only ever other 100 mile race.
26\06\10 - HERTS WHEELERS CC 10(F20/10)
On a breezy saturday evening four HWCC members competed in this event. Their times were PY(22:46), BE(23:00), BP(23:10) and PW(23:13).
20\06\10 - MALDON CC (SPOCO) 10 (E21/10)
SPOCO events are not held on dragstrip courses and BP's time of 25:27 earned him 26th place out of 50.
20\06\10 - VTTA (East Anglia) 25 (E2/25)
PW was flying. At 17.5 miles he was still averaging over 26mph. The odds on a sub hour were looking good despite the difficult conditions. Then for about 2 miles there was a mini tempest to ride against and he lost about two minutes. His resultant time of 1:00:24 whilst still a PB, was slightly disappointing considering his speeds over the first 17.5 and last 5.5 miles.
13\06\10 - FINSBURY PARK CC 50 (F1/50)
PW's last words on leaving the previous day's event was "at least that lessens the odds on me puncturing tomorrow". Moron. This time he punctured on 49 miles. At the time he was looking at the very unlikely possibility of a PB. Doing the last mile on a flat back tyre he clocked 2:09:52, 77 seconds down. Despite this, he was delighted with his time although yet another visit to the osteopath is required.
12\06\10 - VTTA (East Anglia) 25 (E2/25)
On a very fast course in good conditions, PY (57:26) and MP (1:01:21 - 3rd Vet on Standard) completed the circuit whilst PW didn't. As he had mistakenly not taken a clip to attach his pump to his bike, when he punctured he found that a three mile (or six and a half minute bike journey) equated to a fifty+ minute walk back. Will probably need a new set of cleats.
06\06\10 - HITCHIN NOMADS CC 25 (F1/25b)
The predicted bad weather did not materialise as PY (59:41), PW (1:04:14) and MP (1:07:18) vied for the Garrett Cup, an HWCC event integrated within the Hitchin Nomads race. MP's time won First Vet on Standard by two seconds, with third place a further three seconds adrift.
05\06\10 - NEWARK CASTLE CC 25 (A25/25)
It was also very hot in Nottinghamshire as PW took part in this event. His time of 1:01:19 accurately mirrored his current lamentable state of health and ability as this was a very fast course in ideal racing conditions. This should have been the perfect opportunity for him to get within the hour for the first time.
05\06\10 - ECCA 10 (E2/10)
On a very hot afternoon out near Newmarket, three HWCC riders rode this event. BP's time was 22:34, SW's was 23:42 and MP's was 24:26.
23\05\10 - HERTS WHEELERS CC 30 (F1/30)
In very good racing conditions on the A1, PW was the sole HWCC representative. He recorded a disappointing 1:17:27 thus failing to make the most of the good conditions.
22\05\10 - NORTH ROAD CC 25 (F14/12)
On a very warm and not too windy course at Guilden Morden, PY's time of 1:03:08 was enough to gain him Second Vet on Target whilst PW recorded 1:07:57.
22\05\10 - ECCA 50 (E2/50C)
MP's time, on a hot afternoon, of 2:11:13 was only 5 seconds slower than his previous year's best but it improved the East Anglian VTTA Group Age record (for 77 years) by two and a half minutes.
16\05\10 - NORLOND TT COMBINE 50 (F1/50)
It was very cold and windy, but MP's time of 2:17:57 enabled him to take the 1st Vet on Standard award again.
12\05\10 - VTTA LONDON & HOME COUNTIES 10 (F12/10)
On a very cold and cross-windy A1 near Leighton Buzzard MP's time of 25:55 enabled him to take the 1st Vet on Standard award.
09\05\10 - NORLOND TT COMBINE 30 (F1/30)
On a cold and windy A1 course PY clocked 1:14:17 and MP's time of 1:20:41 enabled him to take the 1st Vet on Standard award.
01\05\10 - CAMBRIDGE CC 10 (F2D/10)
At a new course between Caxton Gibbet and Cambridge, PY and MP rode this event. PY (23:04) and MP (25:09) both encountered crosswinds, making it difficult in both directions, although it was a bright and sunny afternoon.
25\04\10 - NORLOND TT COMBINE 10 (F1B/10)
A very wet (but not windy) course on the A1 enabled many riders to gain fast times, with 10 personal bests being achieved. PY (22:52) and MP (25:13 - 1st Vet on Standard) rode their fastest 10's for the year and 2nd-claim member DW recorded 25:25.
18\04\10 - BEDFORDSHIRE ROADS 25 (F1B/25)
It was a chilly early morning start for PY on the A1 and he managed a time of 1:01:16.
17\04\10 - ELITE CC 10 (E91/10)
A warm afternoon with a light S breeze saw MP record a time of 26:25 on the Leaden Roding course.
11\04\10 - SOUTHGATE CC 10 (F20/10)
The NE wind was still gusting from the previous day resulting in the time of 26:53 for MP, and 28:55 in CW's first TT of the season
10\04\10 - LEA VALLEY CC 25 (E2/25)
With a strong NE wind pushing the riders to a fast halfway time, payback time was a slow return against the wind. This was reflected in PW's time of 1:03:23 of which the first half of the course was recorded in under 29 mins
05\04\10 - BPS STORTFORD CC (Hilly) (SPOCO SE) 28.5 (E15/27)
On a cool, dry and windy morning BP rode this taxing circuit to a time of 1:30:16 - 25th out of 39.
03\04\10 - VTTA (East Anglia) 25 (E33/25)
In reasonable conditions MP was timed at 1:08:41 which was enough to win him First Vet on Standard and the Stourdale Shield
28\03\10 - CHELMER CC (Hardriders)(SPOCO SE) 25 (E99/25)
BP's time in this event was 1:13:23
28\03\10 - VTTA (London & Home Counties) 10 (HCC180)
At Gt Missenden on a slower course MP took first vet on standard with 27:47.
27\03\10 - ECCA 10 (E210)
Although warmer than of late with a strong crosswind, MP's time was 25:50. Unfortunately there were no vet awards
13\03\10 - WEST SUFFOLK WHEELERS SPORTING 21 (BS31R)
MP rode this event at Risby, Suffolk. He recorded 1:05:41 on a cool, windy afternoon which earned him 2nd Vet on Standard.
14\02\10 - ELY HARD-RIDERS (BS19)
Two Wheelers rode in the Ely Hardriders 25. After the weather of recent days it was never going to be the morning for a Personal Best. MP recorded 1:18:03 which although earned him 3rd Vet on Standard, was over 3 minutes slower than the previous year whilst BP's 1:13:30 was about a minute faster.
