AUDAX & SPORTIVE

See here for the previous year's Audax Rides (2009).

04\07\10 - HERTS WHEELERS - 200\150\100\50km AUDAXES

In hot but very windy weather many HWCC riders took part in these events. With five braving the 150, top honours went to GK who was the sole Herts Wheeler in the 200. AC rode the 100 whilst many took part in the 50.

16\05\10 - LE CARRE DE VALLEES - 100\60km RANDONEE CYCLOTOURISTE

A great weekend in France. Fourteen tourists (13 riders and one non-rider) arrived in Ardres on Saturday afternoon and had an intoxicating evening's meal in preparation for the following day's exertions. Four riders (including a tandem) chose to do the 60km whilst the rest all finished the 100km despite a very strong westerly wind and a series of serious hills.

03\05\10 - EASTERN COUNTIES - 100km AUDAX

Despite the best efforts of Mr SatNav all the riders got to the finish - albeit in different circumstances. DannyM, JasonT, PeterW, RichardH and SteveWh were all making good time until PW's rear derailleur snapped (yet again). Despite attempts to convert the bike into a fixie, the back wheel was too buckled for him to safely continue and he was offered (and gratefully accepted) a lift back to base by one of the organisers. Having been assured that the drive would be along the route of the Audax it was no surprise that he did not see the others (except for Steve) until the finish as they had got lost yet again.

28\04\10 - RIVERSIDE TO RIVERSIDE - 100km AUDAX

With the promise of good weather PeterW set out to complete this 118km Audax starting at Maidenhead. The ride out northwest towards Oxford was fairly uneventful, although the ride back he found more difficult. However, the weather kept its promise and some of the scenery was spectacular.

25\04\10 - PRINCES RISBOROUGH - 133km SPORTIVE

When the rain eventually cleared AndyC, LawrenceU and GrahamK were treated to some spectacular scenery although part of this was missed due to the severity of the course and its hills. Despite this they managed to pick up two silver awards and one bronze.

18\04\10 - WITHAM WANDER - 100km AUDAX

On a fine warm day Steve Wh rode a triangular route around Witham, encompassing Woodham Mortimer to the outskirts of Ipswich and then on to Stisted, around Braintree and back to Woodham Mortimer.

28\03\10 - STEVENAGE START OF SUMMERTIME - 200\115km AUDAX

The change to BST means (for some) The Stevenage Audaxes. With AndyC, GrahamK and LawrenceU taking part in the 200, and six others in the 115 a good day's cycling was hoped for. This was achieved on the route east, but the return was an absolute pig for all. Still, Lawrence completed his first 200, whilst RichardH completed his first 100 and got in some valuable experience for his up-and-coming London to Paris ride.

21\03\10 - END OF SNOOZE - 100km AUDAX

JT and PW rode this event from Haslingfield near Cambridge. In warm and sunny conditions the journey via Haslingfield, Stradishall, Finchinfield, Saffron Walden and Haslingfield was a good workout - and JT completed his first Audax.

14\03\10 - CHILTERN-COTSWOLDS BREVET - 200km AUDAX

GK opened his 2010 200 account with this Audax at Great Kingshill, High Wycombe. On an essentially sunny but windy day, the outward ride to Chipping Norton was into a strong headwind and the finish was up a steep mountain to Loosely Row.

13\03\10 - UP the UTS - 150\100km AUDAX

AC,LU and SWh completed the 100 Audax, whilst PW completed the 150. The weather was cold but dry although the stiff north-westerly wind made life very difficult for long stretches of both circuits.

06\03\10 - THE SPRINGTIME - 100km AUDAX

AC,AP,LU and PW started this Audax, although AP chose not to finish. The weather was good and the only hiccup was PW's chain breaking twice within the space of about ten yards. Fortunately another rider with the required tools passed by and gave breakdown assistance. (Note to PW - a lesson to be learned!)

27\02\10 - BRAZIER'S RUN - 100km AUDAX

AC,AP,GK,LU and PW opened their Audax accounts for the new year. Despite sometimes awful weather all completed the course, although for AC and LU slightly innovative methods were used.
