Barry rode this event, which consists of riding up a steep hill twice. His aggregate time was 3mins 58.6 secs although most of those who turned up on the day went up a little bit quicker!
04\10\09 - Lea Valley CC 25 (E1/25B)
Phil's time of 1:01:34 gave him a course PB by over a minute and was his most satisfying result this year as his 12th position raised him above many of his racing contemporaries.
27\09\09 - Lea Valley CC 30 (E1/30)
Barry's time of 1:17:32 meant that he came 17th out of 49 riders. It also gave him a course PB and 10 extra SPOCO points.
26\09\09 - ECCA (E2/10)
Phil's time of 22.27 gave him a Club Age Record (at 60). Chris's time of 26:34 was a PB for the distance. Steve Watson maintained his impressive good form with 23:32 and Merv rode consistantly to 24:41.
20\09\09 - Norlond TT Combine (F1/25)
A triple triumph. Chris's time of 1:13:25 won the Second Handicap award (although this may be upgraded to first), whilst Merv's 1:07:00 won the First Vet on Standard award. This completed a remarkable record for Merv as he has now won the Edgar Maskell Trophy for the fifth time in the seven years it has been running.
20\09\09 - CC Breckland 50 (B50/18)
Peter's time of 2:16:00 whilst not a PB was his fastest for the year. However he was pleased that he did not come out of the event with any more injuries than he went in with.
19\09\09 - Stevenage CC 12 (F14/12)
On a relatively windless day, Steve and Paul rode 2 up to record 29:02 and came 6th out of 17. Barry finished in the solo section in 29:56 to come 9th out of 18 despite losing time when his chain fell off.
13\09\09 - Eagle RC (SPOCO SE) (E1/50)

22\08\09 - Team Sanjan Design 10 (F2A/10)
Phil, Chris and Merv rode this event with Phil (25:46) on a "vintage" Stan Miles and Chris (27:28) on an equally ancient Raleigh competing in the Old Skool part. Merv's time was 25:20 although this was done on a 2009 Dalkia.
16\08\09 - CC Breckland 12 HOUR (B12/3)
Peter entered this event full of hope and expectation. Unfortunately things did not work out quite as planned and although he packed in at 200 miles he has completed all the distances from 10 miles to a 12 hour race this year. Keeping an average speed of over 20mph for 6 hours, this started to drop as the wind increased and minor injury problems mounted. At 9 hours the estimated mileage at the finish was 218-220 miles. At about 10 hours (c190 miles) a left knee injury forced him to ride using just one leg and common sense prevailed at 200 miles.
16\08\09 - Bedfordshire Road CC 25 (F1B/25)
Barry's time of 1:00:42 was enough to make him 28th out of 119 on the startsheet.
15\08\09 - VTTA (East Anglia) 10 (E2/10)
On a very windy day Phil (25:20), Peter (26.03) and Merv (26:50) rode this event. Riding to the start, and listening to the comments of the early finishers, it was soon apparent that most rider's times would be at least three minutes slower than hoped for.

Merv completed this event in 1:03:38.
08\08\09 - ECCA 10 (E2/10)

Chris Walker successfully completed this event, gaining PBs in all three disciplines. His time of 41:14 for the 1.5km Swim, followed by 1hr 11mins for the 40km Cycle and then 51:49 for the 10km Run gave him an overall time of 2hrs 54mins (incl transition times).
02\08\09 - Hitchin Nomads CC 25 (F1/25)
Merv managed 1:04:49 on a cool morning with a light crosswind. However it was enough for the First Vet on Standard award.

On a warm afternoon with a breeze from the South West Merv recorded 25:46 for the First Vet on Standard award.
26\07\09 - Southern Counties CU 100 (G100/59)
Peter rode his first 100 on a course based around the A24. A reasonable and consistent pace for the first 50 miles was soured when turning south into the wind to reach the second half of the circuit. His recorded time was 4:59:54 although this did include a wait of nearly 35 seconds at some traffic lights. The winner's time was 4:06:07.
26\07\09 - Verulam CC 25 (F1/25)
A rising South wind made life difficult on the return leg, yet Merv was able to win the Second Vet on Standard award with 1:05:07.

Good weather enabled Merv to record 1:02:14, which equals his best of the year.
22\07\09 - London & Home Counties VTTA 10 (F12/10)
On the Leighton Buzzard course in difficult conditions with gusty cross-winds, Merv came 2nd Vet on Standard (25:48) just missing 1st place by 1 second.
04\07\09 - Shaftesbury CC 25 (E2/25)
Barry, Merv and Peter all took part in this Middlemarkers event, with Barry's time of 1:00:01 the best of the three. With a strong headwind outward bound, Merv's time of 1:03:32 easily surpassed Peter's 1:05:25.
27\06\09 - Herts Wheelers 10 (F20/10)

21\06\09 - Century RC 10 (F20/10)

A PB for Peter as his time of 1:00:51 was 38 seconds faster than his previous.

14\06\09 - Fenland Clarion CC 50 (N1/50)
Peter's time of 2:31:01 earned him 10th place in this event based at Sawtry. However as only 14 riders completed, it's not really much to brag about. The winner was timed at 2:02:18 on a fairly slow course.
13\06\09 - Victoria CC 10.2 (E1/10A)
The two-up team work of Barry Page and Brian Evans (mainly BP) thrashed the three-up efforts of Clive Wellings, Paul Fennell and Steve Watson by a whole 3 seconds in this entertaining event. Their respective times were 25:10 and 25:13.
13\06\09 - Shaftesbury CC 50 (E2/50C)

13\06\09 - Sherwood CC 25 (A25/25)
Again back at Newark (this time in good conditions), mechanical problems enabled Peter to start with a 50min penalty, but the actual time ridden (1:06:05) was his fastest 25 this year. Looking forward to getting a decent bike to race on. Might not be any faster, but should at least look and feel better.
06\06\09 - Newark Castle CC 25 (A25/25)
Peter rode this course on the A1 at Newark in windy conditions and could only manage 1:08:56. Despite this he did not come last, being 89th out of 97.

Merv rode this 25 at Six Mile Bottom Near Newmarket. Despite a strong North West wind blowing, Merv’s time was not as fast as he had expected and was the slowest he has recorded on the two lap course. His 1:10:05 was only good enough for 4th on Standard. The winner, not surprisingly was 2008 National 25 mile Champion Michael Hutchinson with a 52.14!!
28\03\09 - Eastern Counties 10 (E91/10)
Three members of the Wheelers braved the elements on the 10 Mile course at Leaden Roding. The event was blessed with a cold, strong North West wind and occasional heavy showers - decidedly unpleasant. Despite the conditions there were very few non-starters in the field of 51 solo riders. As expected given the weather, the two riders from the Wheelers did not manage to record speedy rides. Steve Watson was fastest with a 29:54 followed closely by Merv Player with a 29:57. The winner was Richard O'Rourke, Fitch Crono, with a 22:41. The third Wheeler, Clive Wellings, spent one and a half hours assisting the timekeeper thus ensuring the event took place.
