Wheeler's Club Runs 2009

25\10\09 - Three hardy riders took part in the Off Road ride after Brian E had managed to release his bike from his garden shed!

18\10\09 - Nine riders led by JP left Hertford for Whitwell, and were joined by three more for the Pace-Judging competition. This competition involves riding a circuit in one direction followed by riding it in the reverse direction. The winner is the person whose two times are the nearest to each other. Chris S recorded the perfect times - the same both ways. Barry was second (+2secs) with Paul third (+4secs).

11\10\09 - Due to some incompetence by this writer (and others), the club ride started either at 10 or 11 or 11.30 after the Hill Climb which was at either 9.30 or 10. However seven riders from the "10" group met up at Wandon End with five riders from the "11" group. Fortunately all's well that ends well although at least one rider turned up at "whatever" time and missed both groups.

04\10\09 - An impressive turnout saw about 20 Wheelers and Guests sampling the culinary delights at Braughing. A gentle ride, disturbed only by two punctures, saw the large group riding the lanes north of Ware.

04\10\09 - Two riders took part in the Off Road ride.

20\09\09 - Ten people met in the sunshine at the Blue Egg, Gt Bardfield. Seven riders led by Tim & Angela rode from Much Hadham, two rode from Chelmsford and one drove from Norwich.

13\09\09 - Four riders led by John F left Sawbridgeworth and braved the Flitch Way to get to the Booking Hall at Rayne.

06\09\09 - A bumper day. Twenty-one riders in total over both rides, with three doing both the morning and afternoon rides. In the morning eight riders (including three guests) rode to the Golf Club at Tea Green. Although one rider had mechanical problems and broke off early to get back, the rest had a fairly incident free ride. In the afternoon thirteen riders (including four guests) rode to Braughing on a warm afternoon.

30\08\09 - Andy C led a group of seven out from Much Hadham for the club ride out to the Garden Tea Room, Writtle. On the way out the peloton swept up a lone rider (John) and met up at Writtle with Barry, who had decided that he preferred to lie-in rather than make an early start and that he also needed beer to get him home. Three "volunteers" bravely decided to help him in his quest.

26\08\09 - Around the lanes.

23\08\09 - Yacht Club Cafe, Hanningfield Water led by Tim and Angela.

19\08\09 - Seven riders rode tonight. All had a good journey around the lanes.

16\08\09 - Seven riders led by JohnP rode from St Margarets to the Village Tea Room, Hatfield Heath for an afternoon outing.

16\08\09 - Eight riders led by JohnF rode from Hertford to the Four Ways Cafe,Hudnall Corner. The journey out west was calm and a strong wind in the early afternoon blew them back home.

09\08\09 - Nine HWCC riders led by Alex left Puckeridge at 09.30 for a roundabout tour to Reed. John F lasted about 16 miles before he had to turn home for a prior commitment. The rest braved the mountainous terrain around Royston in order to get to The Silver Ball Cafe.

05\08\09 - Whilst nine riders started, only seven lasted further than 100 yards as the chain on Graham and Sonia's tandem could not take the strain. The remainder had an enjoyable and event free journey around the lanes curtailed only by the early arrival of darkness.

02\08\09 - Ten HWCC riders and six guests enjoyed a ride out to Standon Village Hall along the quiet lanes north of Ware.

02\08\09 - Three intrepid souls rode off-road, negotiating various minor hazards although the mud flats of Much Hadham did prove slightly tricky.

26\07\09 - Eight HWCC riders and one guest had a good journey to and from The Booking Hall, Rayne

22\07\09 - Five riders rode the early evening ride. Cathy's luck was consistent as she punctured again. This time the offending flint was removed from her tyre. However on the way home from the finish, Peter punctured.

12\07\09 - Eleven riders took on Andy C's Grande Tour de Start Locations incorporating a stop at the Village Tea Room (Hatfield Heath) and a further refreshment stop at Standon. Yet another rider joined the Elite Synchronised Falling -in-the-River group bringing this year's total to three.

08\07\09 - Six riders took to the lanes north of Ware for an early evening ride.

05\07\09 - Five HWCC members plus one guest took part in the off-road ride from Hertford.

05\07\09 - Five HWCC members plus two guests rode out to Braughing on a hot sunday afternoon.

28\06\09 - Eleven riders started out on for a trip to Finchinfield. It was a very warm day, so the cafe was a welcome stop. On arrival back at Much Hadham, eight of the riders had a further "stop" in the pub.

24\06\09 - A good turnout as eight riders rode on the lanes north of Ware on a warm but breezy evening.

21\06\09 - Bruno, Graham & Sonia (on a tandem) enjoyed a leisurely ride out to Standon.

21\06\09 - Five riders followed Alex P on a journey out to Hexton. We arrived there to find that the Stevenage Circular 50 were also going to use the cafe. As we arrived 10 mins before them, we sat outside and watched them pass.

14\06\09 - John F led seven riders out to Wheathampstead where Graham K left for home but John P joined the party.

10\06\09 - For the first Wednesday ride of the summer, John F led out four other riders for an enjoyable tour of the lanes and villages around Ware and Hertford. More Wednesday rides are planned.

07\06\09 - John F and Cathy P were the only two riders to brave the awful weather for an off-road morning ride. However there was a better turnout (8) for the afternoon tea-shop ride. This was supposed to have been to Westmill, but as this venue was full a few extra miles were added to get to Braughing.

31\05\09 - John F led nine other wheelers from sunny Puckeridge to sunny Hinxworth and back. In glorious weather the only concerns were dehydration and sunburn.

24\05\09 - Tim & Angela led a merry group on a hot day to Gt Bardfield where they all met up with more club members who had made their own way there.

10\05\09 - Tim & Angela led a group of six other riders to a new venue at Clavering Lakes.

03\05\09 - John F and three other wheelers went for a local off-road ride on routes that were new, even to Alex P.

03\05\09 - El Treasuro, John C, joined four other Wheelers ( plus one guest) led by Bruno C on the slow ride to Braughing.

26\04\09 - John F led five club members from Much Hadham to Thaxted, but came back with six on a bright and sunny day.

19\04\09 - Andy C led seven other club members and one guest from Hertford to Hitchin and soon the numbers increased by three more club members. Although only ten of those riders stayed for refreshments at the Fourleaf Clover Cafe, it was by far the biggest turnout of the year.
