AUDAX & SPORTIVE

25\10\09 - EMITREMMUS 100km AUDAX

On a glorious autumn day DannyM, GrahamK, PeterW, Steve Wh and ValdisB took part in this annual event out of Stevenage. Soon joined by AlexP after about half a mile, a reasonable ride took all out to Saffron Walden. There the problems started as to get home required a herculean effort against the wind. Peter's knee caved in (yet again), whilst life is too short to chronicle Danny's tribulations. Needless to say all made it back (and someone has to finish last)!

26\09\09 - AUTUMN TINTS 100km AUDAX

AndyC, GrahamK, PeterW and LawrenceU rode this event out from Ugley. The phenominal pacesetting by the other 3 soon dropped PW. However LU can now boast of his first 100+ mile day.

13\09\09 - ROCKINGHAM AND RUTLAND 110km AUDAX

AlexP and PeterW got a lift to the start at Oundle, in Northants. From there they rode a loop around Northants & Leics. Despite a strong NE wind and a course that was "lumpy" for the first half, they averaged over 15mph. Having finished the audax they then rode back (wind assisted) to Stevenage, a further 60 miles. This completed AP's longest distance in a day (130 miles). Their average time for the whole day was just over 15mph, although if the time that AP spent waiting for PW to catch up is taken into consideration, then his average was probably nearer 16mph.

06\09\09 - NEW FOREST AND COAST 100km AUDAX

SteveWh's ride took in the scenic opportunities of the South Coast. Starting at Lymington he rode over Cranbourne Chase, down the Hampshire Avon Valley and along the coast. With the Needles on the IOW, a hang-glider overhead and parts of the course within the New Forest there were very few boring moments during the ride.

09\08\09 - THREE COUNTIES - CLOVER LEAF RANDONEE 107km AUDAX

SteveWh took the opportunity to cycle in a different part of England. A loop into the Cotswolds followed by a loop in the Vale of Evesham made the most of the good weather.

26\07\09 - LONDON TO CAMBRIDGE 60m CHARITY RIDE

PatrickD completed this ride in 3 and a quarter hours, although he declined the chance to ride back which would have completed his second 100m ride.

19\07\09 - FOUR COUNTIES AUDAX 150km

Seasoned Audaxer GrahamK led PeterW (on his first 150) and ValdisB on his first ever Audax. The weather was not kind, but GK and PW managed to complete in a riding time of 6hrs 24mins (av 14.7mph), VB having chosen to ride back from Anstey with some of the 50km riders.

19\07\09 - TWO COUNTIES AUDAX 100km

SteveWh, AndyC, BobB and PatD started this event. However whilst Steve manfully carried on to finish, the others decided to wait for a bus at Lilley - which of course did not come. If anybody comes across these poor bedraggled souls then please dry them out and return them to their loved ones.

19\07\09 - ONE COUNTY AUDAX 50km

JohnP, JaneP and WilliamC rode this. When GK, PW and VB caught up with JP(x2) at the pub at Anstey, guess who was eating?

16\07\09 - UGLEY TWO HALVES AUDAX 100km

PeterW and GrahamK rode a figure of eight circuit centred on Ugley. In good weather they managed a fairly fast ride of 3hrs 52 (av 16.4mph).

12\07\09 - SUBURBAN BREAKOUT AUDAX 100km

PeterW rode to Edmonton to meet up with SteveB. From there it was a ride to Fortis Hill in order to ride back to Hertford (tea-stop at Peter's) and on to Cottered. The event then took them back to Fortis Hill and then they returned to Edmonton and Hertford.

05\07\09 - TORPLEX AUDAX 200km

GrahamK spent part of his holiday riding around Dartmoor in the pouring rain and wind. On the occasions that the conditions improved he was able to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

05\07\09 - EAST HERTS LOOP AUDAX 100km

SteveWh and PeterW spent a hot morning riding out from London Colney and looping around Hertfordshire past both of our front doors before finishing back at LC.

14\06\09 - DIEPPE RAID RANDONEE 107km

Who says we don't travel far? SteveWh enjoyed a day in Northern France sampling their food and wine whilst also including a ride on some of the French hills.

07\06\09 - NORWICH 100m CHARITY RIDE

PatD and PeterW rode this event in atrocious weather conditions. Whoever it was who said that Norfolk is flat needs to cycle around it. However Pat did record his first 100 mile ride.

06\06\09 - THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH AUDAX 110km

SteveWh enjoyed a change of scenery by taking part in this ride from Beech Hill, near Reading. He journeyed through Berkshire and Hampshire to Alresford and back via Fleet. Starting damp and ending in light drizzle, the rest of the ride was dry.

17\05\09 - 110m ETAPE DU DALES SPORTIVE

SteveW rode this gruelling event in the Yorkshire Dales. After riding through the "mountains" with barely the respite of a flat stretch of road, he recorded 9hrs 18 mins for 515th place out of 660 starters. Like most cyclists, he will never do anything like this again:- until the next one!

03\05\09 - ECCA AUDAXES 100km and 200km

Whilst SteveWh was riding the 100km, GrahamK and PeterW braved the elements (cold, wind and a bit of rain - same as Steve) to complete the 200km ride in about 9 3\4 hours (riding time 8hrs 22 mins).

26\04\09 - PRINCES RISBORO SPORTIVE 124km

AndyC and GrahamK both successfully completed the gruelling course, and attained a bronze award for doing so. This despite AC being ill during the week leading up to the event.

22\04\09 - WEST LONDON 1/4 RUISLIP AUDAX 105km

PeterW cycled to Ruislip in order to take part. The journey there and back was ok, but many of the roads and lanes on the event were not much fun.

29\03\09 - STEVENAGE START OF SUMMERTIME AUDAX 200km

GrahamK and PeterW took part in this event. The return journey was more difficult due to a breezy westerly wind.

22\03\09 - END OF HIBERNATION AUDAX 200km

PeterW drove to Haslingfield (SW of Cambridge) in order to ride 200km into the wilds of Cambridgeshire and Essex (towards Stowmarket). The weather was seemingly innocuous although it showed its true colours for the return journey.

14\03\09 - UP THE UTS AUDAX 107km

AlexP, AndyC and PeterW all rode to the start at Ugley\Henham and met SteveWh. All completed the course with varying degrees of difficulty.

07\03\09 - SHAFTESBURY CC SPRINGTIME AUDAX 150km

GrahamK and AndyC rode to the start at Ugley\Henham and returned by train after riding a gruelling 150km around Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire.

28\02\09 - BRAZIER'S RUN AUDAX 106km

GrahamK, AndyC and PeterW cycled out to the Victoria CC HQ at Ugley\Henham and met SteveWh at the start. All completed the course, but PW had tyre problems causing him to run late. However, whilst GK and AC caught a train back to Broxbourne a good samaritan gave PW a short lift to Bishop's Stortford so that he could play the second half of a football match and help turn a 0-0 scoreline into a 2-0 loss! Then he rode home.
